ProMedica Health Screenings at Center of Hope (12 Photos)
Free Blood Pressure, Glucose, Cholesterol screenings were conducted at Center of Hope along with one-on-one consultations with doctors.

"Dining with Diabetes" Participants Reunite at Center of Hope  (2 Photos)
The Toledo Lucas Health Dept. in conjunction with the OSU Extension, conducted a 3-session program for the congregation and community of Center of Hope. Classes included healthy cooking demonstrations that use less fat, salt and sugar without cutting taste, diabetes education, and taste testing of a variety of main dishes, side dishes and desserts.  The classes were conducted in September followed by a special reunion on November 12th.
 

 

Mercy M.A.R.C. Health Screenings at Center of Hope  (3 Photos)
Members of Center of Hope received an education session on the definition, effects and prevention of high blood pressure followed by individual screenings.  Each participant pledged to change their lifestyle so that it improves their blood pressure.
 
 
COH's JRAP Receives Regional and National Notice (8 Photos)
 
Dr. Perryman's vision to fight dual assault of poor nutrition and poverty by turning vacant urban space into productive use gains Federal and Regional attention as EPAUSDA and other officials visit Center of Hope's JRAP.
 
 
Dr. Perryman, Other Local Leaders Speak Out Against Gun Violence  (3 Photos)
 

The "Pastors United for Social Empowerment" organized a special service to pray for peace and safety of young people and halt gun violence while holding the local, state and federal governments accountable for their role in preventing such tragedies from occurring in the future.  Bishop J. Douglas Wiley (Pastor/Founder of The Life Center Cathedral, New Orleans, LA) was the guest preacher.  The service, which was held at United Missionary Baptist Church, received media coverage from Toledo News 11, FOX Toledo News 36 and the Toledo Blade Newspaper. 

  
 
 
 
Jericho Road Agricultural Project (JRAP) 
The COH Youth came out to plant their garden that will:
(1)  Provide access to produce or nutritionally rich foods otherwise unavailable to many families and individuals.
(2)  Donate produce to Martin Luther King Kitchen for the Poor.
  • (3)  Create or enhance access to places for physical activity, Allow children and their parents to eat healthier, more nutrient rich diets.
  • (4)  Provide education where youth acquire agricultural skills, obtain nutrition awareness, and learn about the importance of soil and the basic need for plants to be nurtured and cared for.
  • (5)  Provide access to produce or nutritionally rich foods otherwise unavailable to many families and individuals.
      
     

     

     

     
    COH Tribe of November Celebration (4 Photos)  
    Dea. T. Stewart and Sis. Jean Coats sponsored a party for the Tribe of November.  All other Center of Hope members were invited
     

     

     

     
    Deacon Ordination Services for Sis. Tracee Perryman-Stewart (9/28/08) (9 Photos)  
    The Ordination Services for Sis. Tracee Perryman-Stewart took place at Center of Hope C.B.C. on Septemnber 28, 2008.  Rev. Robert Bass and United M.B.C. were among the guests.
     

     

     

    CDF Freedom Schools National Day of Social Action (34 Photos)
    In an effort to resolve the crisis of 9.4 million uninsured children in America, CDF Freedom Schools young scholars in 24 states and 61 cities participated in a variety of actions including visiting and writing letters to elected officials, joining together for marches and rallies and leading awareness activities.  Scholars from the Center of Hope Family Services Freedom Schools Program joined forces with other Ohio groups in Cleveland, Ohio and rallied on the steps of First United Methodist Church .

    Following today's church service, Center of Hope members and visitors received blood glucose and blood pressure screenings sponsored by ProMedica.

     

     

    Women's Leadership Conference (5 Photos)
    Dea. Clinton Yokley of Mt. Enon Baptist Church (Dayton, OH) facilitated a meeting following church service for the women regarding Church Leadership.
     

     

     

    Men's Leadership Conference (7 Photos)
    Dea. Clinton Yokley of Mt. Enon Baptist Church (Dayton, OH) facilitated a meeting for the men at Cafe Marie's regarding Church Leadership.
     

     

     

    Pastor Bass' 5th Pastoral Anniversary (5/4/08)(3 Photos)
    Dr. Perryman and Center of Hope fellowshipped with United Missionary Baptist Church (Toledo, OH) as they celebrated their 5th Pasoral Anniversary.  This album includes a photo of the church and a few photos of the Pastors and Leading Ladies of both churches.
     

     

     

    The Great American Cleanup (18 Photos)
    Saturday was part of The Great American Cleanup - an opportunity to clean up your yard, street corner, block as COH joined forces with Toledo CDC in taking pride in our community in conjunction with City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods.
     

     

     

    Alex Haley Farm Tour (47 Photos)
    This album contains photos from the historic Alex Haley Farm in Clinton, Tennessee.  Each year, Center of Hope Freedom Schools interns join student leaders from around the nation in annual week-long training sessions. 
     

     

     

    COH Health & Wellness Ministry meets with the Toledo Health Department (3 Photos)
    Aubrey Whewell and Ann Gibson of the Toledo Health Department met with members of the COH Health & Wellness Ministry to discuss the health issues affecting their congregation and render ideas to help handle these issues.  This album contains a  photo of Aubrey and Ann as well as the COH Health & Wellness members gathered around the table.
     

     

     

    Actress Regina King Rallies for Obama at Center of Hope (3 Photos)
    Award-winning actress Regina King visits Center of Hope prior to the Ohio Primary Elctions as she rallies for support of Sen. Barack Obama.  This album contains photos of her with her campaign team, speaking from the pulpit, and with Dr. Perryman.

    Pastor & Leading Lady Perryman were guests on "Coffee with the Fords."  The show originally aired Sunday, February 17th at 6:30 AM on Toledo's ABC 13 (WTVG).  Topics discussed include the  Center of Hope's Freedom Schools program and the Preacher's Wife Hat Shop and Boutique.
